|An automatic tool for creating timing pulleys and belts could be also a great function for time saving. And online catalogs are generaly useless for closed belts.|

Any progress about gear creation functionality? Some tutorial for gear creating would be very useful for people like me without any experience in drawing of such elements.
You should also publish some list of features for future Varicad releases (or better some kind of "wishlist" to be discussed on this forum).

There is also Unwin's method for constructing gears in 2D, it is approximate, but looks good. See http://www.ul.ie/~nolk/gears.htm, click on "Drawing a spur gear profile".
If you're not going to CAM from the profile, it should be fine.

Is that gear next to the text "VariCAD powerful yet affordable' something made using VariCAD? I think not given that I can find no hint of how to make a gear, which I would expect to be one of the basic objects.
I can find no useful explanation for the spur gear calculator, either in the html manual nor the PDF manual.
A simple picture that just identified the dimensions could be a big help.
A series of snap shots in the manuals going from the calculator to the 2D drawing that could be extruded would also be great.

Still no way to do these directly in VariCAD.
The feature was promised "soon" in 2008.

You can create a pinion gear designing the gear tooth profile, rotating it with copy and making a subtraction on the main solid. You can find my video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjUSdJz93Cc
