objects lost from sections
When I work in 3d with sections in assembly, after some editing some parts show up where they are supposed to be hidden. These remaining objects exhibit strange behavior - you can not select them with a selection frame, only by clicking on them individually.

I tried removing/adding back solids, undefining sections, deleting sections - nothing helps. Only saving as STEP worked, but then I lost all the threads, colors and assembly structure.

I tried to build a new assembly from the same parts and after some editing I got this same problem of stray objects again.

I can provide the files, but I do not see how to post them, I also do not know - how to make an archive of an assembly with all the used parts files without doing it manually.

Please can you send the files (assembly and parts) to support@varicad.com?
Thank you.
Files are rather big
Assembly file is 66.7 MB, gzipped - 14.7MB. It uses 62 part files and I do not know how to "package" the design - create a single archive with assembly and all the parts used without manually selecting copying those 62 files from the parts directory.

I did not find - how to collect all the parts files (and I did not want to break links to parts as they may be needed to demonstrate the problem, so I manually copied the files. I hoped that if rename parts folder and try to open assembly the program will list the missing files (so I can copy the list and convert it to bash script). Unfortunately I was not able to copy the contents of the window - it would not allow me to select anything, right click did not work and there was no option in menu to save the list.

So here is the archive - http://community.elphel.com/files/test_sections.tar.gz

Thank you, Andrey. I have forwarded it to a colleague of mine so that he can look into the cause. You should be informed soon.

Marek
Thank you
Thank you, Marek, I'll be waiting.

Andrey
Thank you, too!
I have just spoken to our development manager. They are going to look into the cause. You should be notified via email about any progress.

Thank you again

Another problem - editing solid
Hello Marek,

I did not get any emails from your support yet, and I'm continuing to get same problems with other assemblies - some parts are not selected when using window selection, only when clicking on them one-by-one.

I've noticed several more problems:

1. When I edit a part ( http://community.elphel.com/files/variproblems/varicad_closes_on_edit.tar.gz ) - try to move or delete an element , Varicad window immediately closes, no error messages are reported. Is there any way to diagnose the problem and fix it? It is very time-consuming to explode the Boolean tree and try to re-build it, guessing which sequence is OK for Varicad and which it doesn't like ("can not modify solid"). It that case ("can not modify solid") I have to go back and try different sequence of cutting or adding elements, but it is very difficult for me to guess how to avoid that very verbose output. I'm probably spoiled with the habit of being able to add some debug output to the programs when I encounter problems.

2. Slow response to clicking on buttons. My most common problem is when I click on "Circle or Arc Center" selection and then on an element, it snaps to the nearest point, not to the center. The only workaround I found is that I have to click-wait-release on that button. Same happens when I click on other buttons - I have to keep them pressed for some time. I tried that on several computers - same result. And all other programs respond to mouse click normally - when you "clicked" - it is done.

Andrey

3. When I work in Varicad for some time it gets slower and slower. If I have several Varicad windows, it happens for all of them, not just for the complex assembly. Closing and reopening files does not help, only closing/reopening Varicad application works.
editing solid
Hello Andrey,

Sorry for the delay in my response - I waited for a moment when I would be able to confirm that it has been resolved. It can be expected within a few days. As promised, you will be notified via email.

ad 1)
Please make sure that you are using the current VariCAD 2010 1.04.

ad 2 and 3)
Can you tell me which distribution of Linux are you using? On all the systems under which VariCAD is tested it works well.
Also, please make sure that you do not use composite window managers, such as Compiz etc., and that your system meets all requirements as described on the Requirements page (in particular, hardware support of OpenGL, latest drivers etc.)

Thank you
Marek
I believemy system meets all the requirements.
Marek,

I tried the same program/models on two computers, both with 4GiB memory, 64-bit systems. One (with Core2 Duo) - Kubuntu 9.04, another (Core2 Quad) - Kubuntu 9.10. Crashes exactly in the same way (with segfault and "error 4" in dmesg):

Both have Nvidia card, dual monitors.

I do not use Compiz on either computer.

And the Varicad is 2010-1.04 - I included the screenshot with the window title bar.

Andrey

I believemy system meets all the requirements.
Andrey,

From the above, it is not possible to detect the cause. Please tell me when it crashes, when launching the program? Also, can you send the contents of the errors.txt file?
And do you use the latest drivers for your graphic cards?

VariCAD has been tested on Kubuntu 9.10 with NVidia cards, too. On multiple computers with the original distribution of Kubuntu (without any modification) it worked very well.

Thank you
Marek
Crash doesn not seem to be related to drivers or OS version
>From the above, it is not possible to detect the cause. Please tell me when it crashes, when launching the program?

Marek, in my initial report I wrote - the program crashes when I try to delete or move one Boolean element of a particular solid. I do not believe it has anything to do with the Graphic card drivers.

> Also, can you send the contents of the errors.txt file?
90 lines with the same contents:
Object::connect: No such signal VcdKPopupMenu::highlightedRedirect(int)

> And do you use the latest drivers for your graphic cards?

The same crash happens with the same solid on different computers with different drivers. Did you try to open that file and delete/move the highlighted (on the screenshot) element ?

> VariCAD has been tested on Kubuntu 9.10 with NVidia cards, too. On multiple computers with the original distribution of Kubuntu (without any modification) it worked very well.

Yes, it works on Kubuntu 9.10 - I did not have any problems with drivers (just some minor memory or other resource leak that made me restart Varicad after some time). The problem does not seem to be related to particular version of the OS or drivers as I was able to reproduce the same crash on different systems.

Andrey

Problem Resolved
Andrey,

I have just got information that the problem has already been resolved. In the new VariCAD 2010 2.0 it works well.
