Some beginner usage questions
Hi all,

I just recently started using the demo Varicad and found it a great program. However, I've come across some issues that I hope someone out there can solve.

1. In 2D, I have difficulty selecting parts of a line on an object if it is really small (eg. < 2mm). I was trying to make my own rack/pinion from an existing model, and regardless how much I zoom in, the line just doesn't highlight even if my mouse is directly over it. It however works if I zoom out enough, but then I have to go through a lot of trial and area and eye-squinting.

2. Sometimes in 3D, when I select an object for translation/rotation the "3D information" popup sometimes disappear and I have to restart the program for it to appear again.

3. How do I "separate" objects from a boolean "add" ?

4. How do I remove a "hole" that has been inserted into an object?

5. I can objects to group/section, but how do I select them all to do a translation/rotation?

6. Not entirely sure if this possible, but can I add construction lines in 3D? Like say I want to position an object in the middle of a 3D cube, I could simply draw a line from 2 diagonal corners and snap to the middle of this line.

That's it for now!

Please can you describe what exact steps did you take and provide information about your system (especially if using Linux)? You can send it to our technical support at support@varicad.com.

>3. How do I "separate" objects from a boolean "add" ?<

*You can use the command "Explode Boolean Tree" (see menu Objects > Boolean Operations > Expolde Boolean Tree). But please note that this is not a suitable way if you want just to remove one solid (or other parts). For this purpose, use the following way (it is writen for the latest VariCAD 2010):
1. Right-click on the solid
2. Select the option "Edit Boolean Tree Elements"
3. Select a solid from the Boolean tree scheme, right click on the selected item and select Delete.

>4. How do I remove a "hole" that has been inserted into an object?<

*In VariCAD 2010, you can do it very simply:
1. Press Ctrl key + select the hole by the selection button of the mouse
2. Right-click and select Delete

Alternatively, you can do it the following way:
1. Select the Delete icon from the icon menu
2. Use the option "Select Single Elements (Holes...)" from the floating menu
3. Right-click to confirm

>5. I can objects to group/section, but how do I select them all to do a translation/rotation?<

*Very simply. After selecting the command "Transformations, ..", use the option "Select Solids from 3D Groups", which is avilable immediately in the floating menu "3D Selection"

*There is another even simplier way:
When positioning solids you have always available in the floating menus an icon "Between Points". Select this icon and then define the first and second points as opposite corners of the cube.
