sub-assembly
In an earlier thread the possibility of sub-assemblies was discussed, and the developers said it is planned in the future. Is there an estimation when it would be available?

It would be nice to be able to make an assembly file (part of my whole setup for easy editing and separate 2D drawings), and include it in a bigger assembly. Whenever the sub-assembly file is updated, it is reflected in the big assembly as well.
Mee too ;-)
As I mentioned earlier, this is my biggest wish as well.
Sub-Assembly
It is for Varicad one o the most important Skills to have the unctionality of Sub Assembly but the Development is - nobody knows why - not yet ready with this. I need Sub Ass. really urgently in Varicad esp. for big Assemblys wich you can not really handle with the current situation. Hope that they will do a Sub Assembly really fast.
Subassy in Varicad
It is something i also struggled with.
I tried to figure out a work around with groups and the copy / paste (under Edit menu in 3D).
Here is what I found:
In your general assy, define your parts with their own part files, then define your subassy as a group in your general assy and then copy/paste the group representing your subassy into a new file. This new file is then an "assembly" and has all the links to the part files (try opening a part from within the new file). Do not use "save selected" because this will not work!

If you now change parts in your subassy, then the changes are also reflected in your general assy (after regenerate!). However, if you change positions of your parts in the subassy, these are not reflected in the general assy.
The workaround for this is as follows:
In your general assy, delete the objects of your subassy (choose the group and delete), and also delete the groupname (via group definitions). You should now save, close and reopen your general assy; otherwise, the groupname is not completely lost!
In your subassy file, redefine the group and groupname of your subassy and save.
Now in your general assy, you can do an "insert of objects from file" -> choose your subassy file. Now all the parts of the modified subassy are inserted in the general assy and all links to the part files remain intact.

I hope this helps a little bit!
